Hey Stjoelighthouse.com fans! We have an update on the renovation of the lighthouse and an answer to a significant question many of you have asked. Currently the lighthouse "top" is painted grey. This will be painted red before complete restoration is completed. Susan Solon, from the City Of St. Joseph, kindly informed us that it will be painted a darker red than what was before restoration. This darker red color will be the same as the lighthouse was in 1932!
We are back up for your viewing pleasure! Thank you for your understanding.
Sorry fans, our webcam is down due to a technical camera issue.
Spotted a wedding on the beach this weekend, a bit chilly but perfect weather for photos. Pure Michigan

10,000 year old Lighthouse?
Maritime archaeologists – AKA, the coolest job ever – working off the coast of Sicily have discovered a 10,000-year-old monolith structure. They believe the Stonehenge-esque monument served as a lighthouse.
We had a chance to see close up the re-construction process underway recently.......

Berrien County Sheriff Bailey: Zero Tolerance For Alcohol At Silver Beach County Park
Berrien County Sheriff Paul Bailey is making it crystal clear to those who go to Silver Beach County Park: no alcohol is allowed.
Bailey spoke with our partners at WNDU NewsCenter 16 about the new enforcement, prompted by the disturbance at the park before the July 4th fireworks. He regrets that the person who threw a bottle and injured another beachgoer hasn’t been caught
Along with stepped up alcohol enforcement, more security cameras will be added at Silver Beach County Park yet this year.
North Pier Lighthouses Rehabilitation Update 8-10-2015(From City of St. Joesph website)
Last week the contractor removed the lantern glass from the outer light; prepared temporary catwalk enclosures; continued steel repairs to the inner & outer lights; replaced rotten & damaged ceiling framing at the first floor of the inner light; removed plaster/concrete infill in door at the inner light; and removed old electrical conduit from the catwalk between the inner & outer lights.
This week, the contractor plans to continue steel repairs to the inner & outer lights; begin media blasting the catwalk between the inner and outer lights; and begin painting the catwalk between the inner and outer lights. Please understand that these plans are subject to change based on conditions.
Thank you for your understanding as we work to restore these historic structures.
There is a law of unintended consequences.....and we just witnessed it. A number of folks brought their dogs to the beach today and they were ticketed by the St. Joseph police, who were doing their job.
Unfortunately the folks who brought their dogs to the beach did not want their beach day ruined so they put their dogs in their cars with the windows up and returned to the beach.
The police are enforcing the law as it is their job, please don't endanger your pet over this. The signs in the picture below are prominently displayed and are impossible to miss unless you enter the beach in the dark.
We are pretty sure it is not a covered wagon which is parked on the north pier, but some sort of protective scaffolding.
